The AT2020 and AT2021 condenser microphones included in this package are simply great quality. The microphones are very durable and aren't cheap like many microphones at this price level. They sound really clear and fresh, which is a relief upgrade from my old Logitech [ew] microphones.



The 2020 produces rich sounding vocals through my Roland AC60 Amplifier. I even took the mic to the bathroom to capture the natural re verb of other rooms and the results were excellent. I opted to spend the extra $40-50 on the small diaphragm condenser 2021. This was a good choice because it sounds absolutely awesome while miked up to my acoustic guitar.



True, there are much, much more high quality condenser microphones available on the market. But, ladies and gentlemen, for this price it isn't going to get much better! Best bang for the buck. 5/5!

We're using in a church worship service, one for picking up spoken voice and one for picking up an acoustic guitar and variously also our children's choir.



Both microphones work excellently, have nice clear noise-free sound, pick up even children's voices quite nicely without having to overdrive the sound system, and appear to be fairly solidly built.



My only disappointment with them is the AT2020 side-address condenser - I thought that it work as a mic from either side, but it is unidirectional. There was nothing in the advertising telling me that it should work from both sides, it was just an assumption I made, which assumption comes from the fact that I know very little about microphones. Perhaps it's a known fact that "side-address" means one side only, I don't know.



I don't offer that as a complaint, only as a helpful guide in case someone else who doesn't know much about microphones is wondering how it works.



As I said, sound-quality-wise, these are both wonderful, and we're getting another set for the church.

Although I may be a phony at the mic, this mic is no phony. The Samson G Track Microphone exceeded my expectations, for the price. I've only used this mic to record voice but have mixed that in with music. I am very impressed with the quality of this product and how my voice sounds against the professionally recorded music tracks. This microphone also has the look and feel (mostly weight) of a quality product not to mention it looks impressive sitting on the desk of my make shift recording studio (home office). A relative of mine has done "professional" voice recordings, and my untrained ear cannot tell the difference between them speaking on my mic vs. the playback of their "professional" recordings. The knobs feel very solid and velvety smooth to use. The stand, which it comes with, is solid metal and firmly plants itself on any flat surface. I have a desktop computer that I use this with and it's inside the desk that has the microphone on it. After reading some reviews I was concerned that I might pick up too much noise from that or something else, but no problems. I quickly found a nice balance of mic gain vs. speaking distance from the mic.



I gave this product a 4 star rating because it has surpassed every expectation that I had of it, however, there is a problem with this product. The problem is the software that comes with it. I received Cakewalk's Sonar 6 LE software to edit and mix the tracks I recorded with my microphone. The whole package comes ready to use right out of the box, except for the all the time it takes to figure out how to use the software - very frustrating. That being said I quickly gave up on it and downloaded the AVS recording/editing/mixing software and it works great. The good news for me was I had already purchased some AVS software and that was included with it but in a separate download. To purchase it runs around $40 dollars, but I purchased the lifetime registration that allows me to download all of their software, unlimitedly, for as long as they are in business, which is about $60. I tried the Audacity software, but it kept locking up on my computer after about 30 seconds of recording. I do have Windows Vista 64, so that may be the issue.



To be fair to Cakewalk, their software isn't junk, it just needs to be made more user friendly. When using this software I get the impression that it was designed for someone who actually has experience working a real soundboard, understands the terminology, and is familiar with producing music. The problem as I see it is that the software seems to be several experience levels above what it takes to sufficiently record/edit/mix with the microphone. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm not in the music business and I wanted something better than a webcam mic and this seemed like the perfect product; and it was except the software is geared to a more professional type. I will say that after having some time to play around with the Cakewalk software, that it works well and has almost an unlimited number features (at least it seems to be) I have been able to mix a few tracks but still leave my recording and editing to the AVS software, because it's just too easy. Then I simply import the tracks into the Cakewalk software and start mixing. Another issue I had with the software was the inability to actually use the recorded file after I mixed it in Cakewalk. Again I had to turn to the AVS software for an audio converter to go from .WAV type sound file to .MP3 type sound file. I found out later that Cakewalk will sell you an encoder to do this for almost $20, but again the AVS software does it for me.



For best recording you will need to invest in a "pop" filter for your mic. This eliminates all the popping sounds made by your lips when you pronounce -P's, B's and etc. Do not pay more than $10 for one of these. This is something that is not that technical or benefits by exotic materials or fancy features.



I would not hesitate to buy this item again or recommend it to anyone.

I had high hopes for the G-Track, but unfortunately mine was defective and had to be returned. The unit would work sporadically, but then the sound would sharply attenuate so almost no level was coming out of the mic. Also, the headphone jack appeared to have a short in it as touching the headphone connector would sometimes cause a crackling sound to come through the headphones or the sound output would stop altogether.



When I could get the unit working there was a fairly strong background hiss. I have since learned of the Blue Yeti, ordered one, and have been very happy with it. No background hiss, well-built, no-latency headphone jack, great sound for a USB mic, similar price to the G-Track. I would recommend that mic to anyone - the only feature it doesn't have is the additional line-in, it also doesn't come with Sony Cakewalk.

I bought this microphone for my son who is a high school musician. He plays guitar and a couple of other instruments, and was needing to record some demos for college applications and summer camps.



Here was what I was looking for in a microphone:



USB connection - Yes

Includes recording software: Yes, Cakewalk Sonar LE

Includes desktop stand: Yes

Has headphone output for monitoring the recording: Yes



The sound quality on this mic far exceeds the Logitech USB microphone we were using before. I made a homemade pop filter with some items I had on hand and it works fantastic.



My one complaint is that the microphone stand came with the European microphone adapter installed and was extremely hard to get out. Once it was removed, it was easy to attach the microphone to the stand.



When we received the microphone the software CD was shattered. I called the company and the phone was answered within a few rings by a real live person in the USA who immediately shipped me out another CD. I was impressed that the problem was handled so efficiently.



The recording quality is fantastic as well. My son had some friends over who are also musicians and everyone really loved the recording quality on both vocals and instruments.

let me start off by saying I am a musician, who also happens to produce, mix and master. so I know sonic quality when I hear it, and sadly this mic is seriously lacking in that aspect. I had purchased this mic with confidence because of the great reviews it had at the time. I had planned to use it as a quick and easy solution to recording songs on the go because of its built in interface. Sadly, either I just happened to receive a defective mic or everyone else reviewing are beginning musicians without a properly trained ear. the mic is good in the sense that I can record my vocals and guitar through my mic without the need for a separate audio interface (although I would strongly recommend going the traditional route and purchasing an xlr mic and wiring it through an audio interface or sound card). However, the quality of this mics recording sound... reasonable if you are planning on just doing pod casts but as far as recording songs, the sound lacks warmth, is incredibly thin and lifeless, and lets not forget the horrific spike in the noise floor if you raise the mic gain.



I still use it from time to time to lay down guitar tracks before taking them in to re-record them properly but besides that it just sits in the corner, I honestly wish it wasn't to late to return it, or else I would in a heartbeat...



I would highly recommend purchasing a mic such as the Shure SM57-LC Cardioid Dynamic Microphone and wiring it through a interface or mixer, there is a slew of high quality budget equipment such as shure mics, behringer mixers, maudio interfaces, presonus etc. Trust me its worth taking the time to get the best quality you can.

I have been searching for a clue as to how I can get the mic to work with Skype - no luck so far. But as I read the reviews I became concerned that it might not work with GarageBand. I just did a quick test, and it works just fine.
