I've been performing and recording music for over 25 years. I bought the MXL V6 because it's supposed to sound like a tube mic. I compared it with my Rode NT2A, an excellent LDC (not a tube), and I could not tell them apart! I recorded (into a Roland VS2400) male vocal, acoustic guitar, and violin at different distances, and they sound identical to me. (Maybe better preamps would bring out a difference.) The V6 is slightly hotter by maybe 2 or 3 dB. Keep in mind; that the V6 sounds like the Rode is a good thing, but I was hoping for a warmer, tube-like sound. If you can afford it, get the Rode instead; it's built better and has pattern, filter and bass cut switches. Another similar mic is the Audio-Technica AT3035. I'll say this: The V6 is even more beautiful than it looks in the pictures, and I hate to let it go. My quest for the tube sound continues...

I have this and the Shure PG-48. I use them with an inexpensive karaoke machine. The Shure PG-48 is a bit louder but produces more feedback when standing near the speaker. The Sennheiser is not as loud (i.e. sensitive), but is does have a cleaner and tighter sound quality. It is also better at reducing feedback.

The e815S is currently Sennheiser's least expensive hand-held (unidirectional) dynamic vocal mic, designed for live performance. It's shape is similar to a Shure SM-58, in that it has an integrated "ball top" wind screen, and a dark gray tapered body. It features an "off-on" switch and a male XLR (balanced, low impedance) output connector.





To compare this mic to another very well known and thought of mic, the e815S has a slightly brighter top end, a less pronounced midrange peak and less low end proximity effect than a Shure SM-58. It also provides a slightly hotter output than an SM-58, probably because of it's neodymium diaphragm design. The diaphragm appears to be mounted very well as it exhibits very little handling noise.





The brighter character of this mic helps a live vocal cut through the "mix" of live instruments. The lower proximity effect (bass boost when held close to the vocalist's mouth), also contributes to a cleaner-sounding signal. The silent off-on switch is a nice bonus too. The cost for this German-made mic is pretty amazing... they can be had in "three packs" for $100, or around $50 for an individual mic.





If you are looking for a good-sounding, durable, low-cost live performance vocal mic, the e815S is definately worth trying out. This is not an inexpensive "knock-off" of another mic; this is a genuine German-made Sennheiser.

I've used this mic for several recording sessions over the last few years, and found it to contribute a rich, warm tone to the recording. It is also very sensitive, reliable and noise-free. There is a switch on the body of the mic that allows you to vary it's output sound, and it works pretty well. The case that it came with included an anti-vibration mount and wind screen, which is very handy if you are an amateur musician like myself, and don't want to spend alot on auxiliary gear, like cables, stands, etc..

I have used this mic as a substitute for a Shure SM-57 which I used to record vocals with in my studio. Since it requires phantom power, I use it through a Behringer mixing board before going directly into a Tascam Portastudio 5. It always gives me the sound I'm looking for. I intend to use it in the future to mic a Hammond M3 organ for recording. Behringer products are excellent!

This is an excellent microphone shockmount, however I wish it had a ball socket adjustment for more precise adjustment, which would be especially useful for stereo microphones. I got one of these as an upgrade from my VHF-48 that they tried to fix and were unsuccessful. So I paid Vocopro for the upgrade and got the UHF-5805 yesterday via UPS. Out of the box I notice that one of the recharging stations is messed up (they use three little springy pins, one would not spring back). Today I plug in my XLR cables and two of the four XLR outputs won't clip in because the clip on the outlet got pushed back... they aren't supposed to move... So I called them back and got ANOTHER RMA. If I get the next one and its messed up at all, I'll never use Vocopro again. I gave 3 stars because the product is good, but Vocopro's Quality Assurance is terrible.

This is a piece of junk! I have sent one of the microphones and its module back for warranty repairs two times. I have spent over $40.00 in shipping costs for "covered" warranty repairs. That microphone is still not working. If you move as much as 15 feet away from the receiver, there is an awful "whoosing" sound coming from the speakers. I bought this and donated it to our church. It has been totally useless. Don't bother!!

This 770 is my first MXL mic, but more than likely will not be my last. Mic appears to be well built with a nice shockmount. I like the crisp warm sound that the mic gives while still retaining the smooth lows.
